27. Maintaining, cleaning and recoating polyaspartic surfaces
1. Use cleaning methods compatible with the finish
Prefer confirmed cleaning methods. Strong solvents, strong acids or alkalis, hard brushes and unsuitable pads can change gloss or damage the surface. Do not begin aggressive stain-removal experiments over a large area.
For matte finishes, check appearance after wiping in an inconspicuous place. For hammered finishes, check that texture valleys are cleaned adequately. Colors show stains and scuffs differently, so base cleaning procedures on actual samples or small trials.
2. Repair minor damage promptly, after identifying the cause
Prioritize entrances, turning areas, drains and equipment surroundings during inspection. For scratches, blisters or detached edges, determine whether the cause is impact, an interface problem or persistent moisture before choosing a local or broader repair.
Prompt repair can limit spread, but blind overcoating may not help. Repeated damage at one location calls for reassessment of detailing, use or material suitability rather than endless repetition of the same patch.
3. Verify the old layer before recoating
A used surface can accumulate contamination, change gloss or develop an interface that is difficult to bond directly. Check old-layer adhesion, cleaning and preparation requirements, then confirm compatibility with a trial.
Keep records of grade, color, batch, application date and preparation. Original samples and photographs are useful for matte and hammered finishes. Photos help track change but are affected by lighting and camera conditions, so they cannot fully replace physical comparison.
