17. Sample approval and procurement for matte and hammered finishes
Sample approval connects appearance design with application requirements. Build the purchase specification around grade, color, gloss, texture, substrate and service conditions.
1. Approval items for matte topcoats
Identify the full product name and grade, clear or pigmented version, color, target gloss and measurement conditions, substrate and system, recommended thickness, tools and maintenance. Floors also need traffic, slip-resistance and cleaning requirements.
Record the sample’s batch, mixing method, thickness or consumption, curing and viewing conditions. Different gloss candidates can be prepared in the same color, but not every candidate should be assumed to be a stocked product. The approved sample must correspond to the supplied version and its intended application conditions.
2. Texture acceptance for hammered finishes
In addition to shared product and application information, agree on texture scale, distribution, color or metallic effect, component shapes and repair boundaries. For spraying, record tools and process conditions sufficiently to reproduce the sample; retain equivalent records for other methods.
Include representative flat areas, edges and corners. Assessment should cover difficult locations and adequate coverage, rather than only a small central pattern. Exposed substrate and abnormal cratering must not be accepted as texture. Recheck appearance after significant changes to tools or application conditions.

Give the checklist and site requirements to the supplier together. Check received documents against container labels. A defined grade, version and sample turn a choice between matte and hammered into something that can be purchased, applied and accepted consistently.
